SOUTH HEMISPHERE ROUTE

MALDIVES

DESCRIPTION

The Maldives Blue Force Team has created a special dive trip only offered twice a year. The MALDIVES SOUTH HEMISPHERE EXPEDITION is an extraordinary and beautiful safari that has been planned using the very best dive sites in Maldives.
This route is unique in the fact that it occurs only during the voyage to the southern atolls (outbound and return)

Maldives Southern Hemisphere Expedition is made up of ten weeks’ safari with 2 routes and different sites: 7 ATOLLS ROUTE and SOUTH HEMISPHERE route.

*Week 1: 7 ATOLLS route (DEEP SOUTH DOWN) “Male – Koodhoo”

Making 2 ongoing weeks is highly recommended. We call to this option SOUTH HEMISPHERE FULL EXPEDITION ROUTE. From Male, in the central atolls of Maldives, to Gan, in the southern most part of Maldives or vice versa. Departing from Gan and arriving to Male. It offers an exceptional 2 weeks Liveaboard.

MALDIVES – SOUTH HEMISPHERE EXPEDITION
“SOUTH HEMISFERE” ROUTE on board Maldives Blue Force One

SOUTH HEMISPHERE ROUTE “Koodhoo – Gan” or “Gan – Koodhoo”
Itinerary: Gaafu, Foamulah & Gan.
Objectives: Pelagics in Deep South channels such as Koodhoo, Vilingili, Marihaa and Nilandhoo, huge numbers of Green turtles and grey reef sharks, schools of spotted Eagle Rays and even the elusive marlin. Thilas with spectacular coral gardens, channels (kandu) with sharks, pelagics and the oceanic encounters. Whale shark at night, diving with mantas and the 62-year-old British Loyalty shipwreck, which is 140 meters length and the biggest in Maldives.

Most interesting spots on the route:

* GAAFU: The second biggest atoll in the world is famous for the high shark concentration, especially the grey reef shark. But many surprises such as the great hammerhead, silver tip or tiger sharks may arise, as well as the whale shark in presence of plankton. The almost virgin coral areas are also remarkable. Nights among green turtles, parsnips or the presence of a fish only sighted in the South, the lime harlequin fish that lives in schools among corals.
Desert beaches and fishermen islands where you can see the authentic Maldives Islands, far away from tourism who have fishing or even farming as their way of living.
* ADDU: Once base for the RAF & Royal Navy is a tiny atoll below Ecuador, house for some very interesting dive sites; mantas in Mudakan, the British Loyalty shipwreck (the biggest wreck in Maldives) or the dives on the ocean corners among top-shaped corals, the night dive with humphead parrotfish and green turtles, pipefish… and out of the sea a walk along the waterfront promenade and some drinks in one of its outdoor bars.
* FOAMULAH: If weather permits, as there is no protection reef, we will approach this unique island – about 5 km2 – and will dive the reef near the great blue, where we can spot schools of jacks, mantas, lots of silver tip sharks, humphead wrasse and always the chance to spot “specials”, the elusive thresher sharks, tiger sharks, great hammerheads, marlins, humphead parrotfish …

NOTE: This routes are only suitable for trained divers, dive sites are known for the very strong current and dives can be quite hard. So, we require at least 100 logged dives.
